Jeff Steed

Jeff’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, foreign direct investment, and government affairs, including both federal and foreign affairs and relations. He also has significant experience in economic development, trade and tariff policy involving the Department of Commerce, U.S. International Trade Commission, and Federal Trade Commission, as well as import and export controls, including ITAR. In addition, his work includes legislative and administrative advocacy and cross-border intellectual property matters.

His industry experience includes foreign trade affairs, tax policy, defense, aerospace, critical minerals, financial institutions, biotechnology, educational research, and nonprofit organizations focused on economic development, religious issues, and human rights.

Throughout his career, Jeff has served as an equity partner with Utah’s largest law firm and has held various senior executive leadership roles with large corporations, nonprofits, global consulting groups, and venture capital firms. He is a senior partner and co-founder of The Steed Group (TSG), where he currently serves as Chief Executive Officer.

Jeff also serves as a board member and strategic advisor for various for-profit and nonprofit multinational enterprises and nongovernmental organizations with a global presence. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.

He is a board member of the Regan Roundtable (RR) PAC in Salt Lake City, Utah’s largest political action committee dedicated to collaborative and cooperative conservative government. He has also served as an advisory council member for Utah State University and World Trade Center Utah, and he is a co-founding board member of the Huntsman Venture Capital Forum at Utah State University.

In addition, Jeff is a member of the Board of Governors for the Salt Lake Chamber and serves on its Policy Planning Committee. He has also held current and past leadership roles with the Utah State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Association of Corporate Counsel, including serving as past Chairperson of the Nonprofit and Charitable Organizations Section of the Utah State Bar.

Jeff is a published author and frequent public speaker. Utah Business Magazine has recognized him as “40 Under 40,” “Legal Elite,” and “Top Corporate Counsel.” He has also been named a “Super Lawyer” and a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine.

He is a graduate of the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, where he earned a B.A. in Business Management and International Business; Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he earned an LL.M. in International Tax and Finance; and the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, where he earned his J.D.
